To: support-group Subject: Intro Hi, I am Judy K and live in No Texas. I want to remain a member of the group and would like to see it become active again. I have had a rough 6 months---stress, etc.--and am just now getting back to taking care of my Type 2 diabetes. I am to control it by diet at this point, although my Dr would like to see me take Glucophage to help. All that I read about Glucophage scares me and my Dr has not been able to convince me to take it yet!! I have to work---for the health insurance for one thing---and the many side effects of Glucophage would make working at a job difficult --at least that is what I read. I will, once again, try to control sugar levels with diet. I love to see examples of what everyone eats! While some carbs cause a rise in sugar levels, every sample meal on certain Internet sites show eating more carbs!! Thanks for any help you can give. Judy K N. Texas --------------- From: Sharee S To: Support-Group Subject: To: Judy K Hi Judy K, I have taken Metformin for over a year (generic for Glucophage) Some people cannot tolerate it but I was able to and I have had no adverse side affects. When I first started taking it I had some gas problems but that has gone away. You should try it as your doctor suggests, it will help you keep your Glucose under control. When I was diagnosed I weighed 259 pounds and my Dietican put me on the diabetic exchange diet with 200 gm of carbs a day.. I only counted carbs and lost 30 pounds in 3 months. The trick is eatting a balance of carbs and protein at each meal or snack to keep your blood glucose at a even level. I now weight 202, I still have a way to go but eatting right and getting exercise will not only help with your weight loss (if you need to) it will help to keep your BG down. Just as a litte brag for myself because I am proud of how far I have come in the last year.. My HBA1C when diagnosed was 10.5% Last test done about 2 weeks ago HBA1C was 5.5% Good luck to you both.. believe in yourself :) Sharee --------------- |
